Job Summary:
The Military Psychologist plays a vital role in providing specialized psychological support and guidance to military personnel. This position involves the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of psychological issues and disorders commonly faced by military personnel. The Military Psychologist must possess a deep understanding of military culture, adaptability to various combat environments, and the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities:
1. Conduct comprehensive psychological evaluations and assessments to identify mental health conditions, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety, and traumatic brain injury (TBI).
2. Collaborate with military personnel and their families to develop personalized treatment plans and interventions.
3. Provide evidence-based individual and group therapy to address psychological trauma, stress-related disorders, and adjustment difficulties.
4. Administer and interpret psychological tests to assess cognitive abilities, personality traits, and emotional functioning.
5. Assess and address crisis situations, including suicidal ideation, self-harm, and acute psychological distress.
6. Offer consultation and guidance to military leaders and commanders regarding the psychological well-being of their units.
7. Collaborate with medical professionals, psychiatrists, and other mental health providers to ensure comprehensive care for military personnel.
8. Maintain accurate and confidential electronic records of all assessments, diagnoses, and treatments provided.
9. Stay up to date with the latest research and best practices in military psychology and contribute to the professional development of colleagues through training and education.
10. Maintain ethical standards and adhere to legal guidelines in all aspects of practice.
Qualifications:
1. Master's degree or higher in psychology or a related field from an accredited institution.
2. Valid license to practice as a psychologist (Clinical Psychologist, Counseling Psychologist, or Military Psychologist license).
3. Specialization in military psychology or relevant experience working with military personnel preferred.
4. Solid understanding of military culture, structure, and operational environments.
5. Proven ability to conduct psychological assessments and administer standardized psychological tests.
6. Strong knowledge of evidence-based therapeutic interventions for trauma, stress-related disorders, and adjustment difficulties.
7. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate with military personnel, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
8. Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
9. Adherence to ethical principles and confidentiality guidelines in all professional activities.
10. Proficiency in computer skills, including electronic medical records systems.
